EPGP for World of Warcraft guilds
EPGP is the WoW loot system for guilds who want points without bidding wars. Here is how effort points, gear points and priority work, and how to run EPGP on Meadhall with the maths done for you.
How the EPGP loot system works
Every raider has two numbers:
- EP, effort points: earned for raiding, the same way as DKP. Being there, boss kills, time on the bench.
- GP, gear points: added when you take an item. Each item has a GP value, usually set by its slot and item level, so a weapon or a chest costs more than a ring.
When an item drops, it goes to whoever wants it with the highest priority:
priority = EP ÷ GP
Nobody bids and nobody's points are spent. Winning an item raises your GP, which lowers your priority, so the next item goes to someone else; raiding raises your EP, which brings your priority back up. Over time loot spreads evenly among the people who turn up.
The GP floor (base GP)
A new recruit has no GP yet, and dividing by zero would put them first for everything. So EPGP counts GP as never less than a floor, also called base GP or minimum GP: with a floor of 100, someone with 20 GP is counted as 100.
Decay
Most EPGP guilds decay both numbers by the same percent every week. Because priority is a ratio, decay doesn't change today's order much; it makes old points matter less, so someone who stops raiding drifts down and a returning player isn't buried under last year's GP.
A worked example
With a GP floor of 100:
| Raider | EP | GP | GP counted | Priority (EP ÷ GP) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kaelra | 1,200 | 400 | 400 | 3.00 |
| Thornik | 900 | 250 | 250 | 3.60 |
| Mirelle (new) | 150 | 0 | 100 (the floor) | 1.50 |
Thornik is first in line. If he takes an item worth 150 GP, his GP becomes 400 and his priority 2.25, and Kaelra goes ahead of him for the next one.
EPGP on Meadhall
Meadhall is a web hub for a guild or raid team, with a Discord bot. EPGP is one of its loot systems, on every World of Warcraft line it supports: Retail, Classic, Classic Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery, Anniversary and WoW Forever.
- Switch it on: on the DKP page's Rules tab, make two pools (say EP and GP), set Loot system to EPGP, pick them as the EP and GP pools, set the GP floor, and save.
- Award EP as DKP is awarded: activities (boss kills, attendance) pay into the EP pool, from the site, from an event's attendance, or with
/dkp awardin Discord. - Record GP: when an officer records a drop on the loot log, they give its GP, which is added to the winner's GP pool. You type each item's GP; Meadhall doesn't price items from a formula.
- Read the priority: the server computes EP ÷ GP with the floor, and Standings starts with the priority list, highest first: each member's EP, their GP as counted (their own beside it when it's under the floor) and their priority. With a floor of 0, someone with no GP yet shows ∞ and goes first.
- Decay, if it's on, takes the same percent off EP and GP once a week, as a line in the ledger.
In Discord, /dkp standings in an EPGP group shows the same priority list, so raiders can check where they stand without leaving the raid. Every change to EP or GP is a line in the ledger that the whole group can read. An EPGP group gives items by priority, so it doesn't run DKP auctions. More in the guide: EPGP instead of DKP.
An EPGP calculator that keeps itself
Most guilds start EPGP in a spreadsheet, and the spreadsheet is where it goes wrong: a formula dragged one row too far, a decay applied twice, an officer's copy out of date. On Meadhall there's nothing to calculate by hand: EP and GP are ledger lines, the floor is a setting, and the priority is worked out on the server each time anyone looks. If your raid uses an EPGP addon such as CEPGP or Core Loot Manager in game, Meadhall sits beside it as the record the guild reads outside the game; it doesn't read the addon's data.
EPGP or something else?
- DKP if your guild likes bidding, or fixed prices it can see.
- Loot council if trusted officers decide: Meadhall keeps each member's wishlist and a log of who the council picked.
- Soft reserve for one raid at a time, with no points at all: it's on the event, whatever loot system the group runs.
- Starting on WoW Forever? Its page compares them for a fresh guild.
What it costs
A World of Warcraft group of up to 10 members is free, EPGP included. A raid team of up to 30 is £3 a month and a guild of up to 300 is £5. Members never pay. See pricing.
