WoW Forever DKP, soft reserve and loot
WoW Forever opens on 4 November 2026 with fresh servers and no gold runs. Which loot system should your guild use, and where do you keep it? A short answer for each, and what Meadhall does for a Forever guild today.
WoW Forever, in brief
- Launch: 4 November 2026. It's Classic+: the nine original classes, each with its three talent trees.
- Rulesets instead of realms: Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and Hardcore.
- Raids open on 9 December 2026, five weeks after launch: Barrow Deeps (10 players), Hyjal Summit (20) and Onyxia's Lair (40). Their lockout resets aren't published yet.
Five weeks is time to choose a loot system before the first boss, and to get the guild used to it while everyone levels.
Is GDKP banned in WoW Forever?
Yes. In its WoW Forever developer Q&A of 17 September 2026, Blizzard said GDKP runs won't be allowed on Forever's servers, alongside tougher penalties for buying gold (reported by Icy Veins). That follows the ban on GDKP on Blizzard's fresh Classic realms since February 2024.
So the gold-auction raid is out, and a Forever guild needs a system that gives loot out without gold: one of the four below. Meadhall follows the rule: on WoW Forever its auctions run in DKP only, never in gold.
Which loot system should a Forever guild use?
| System | How it works | Suits |
|---|---|---|
| DKP | Points for attendance and kills, spent on items by bidding or at fixed prices, with a weekly decay. | A guild with a steady roster raiding for months, such as a 40-player Onyxia team. Raiders see exactly where they stand. |
| EPGP | Effort points for raiding, gear points for each item won; the item goes to the highest EP ÷ GP. No bidding. | A guild that wants loot spread evenly over time without anyone pricing items against each other. |
| Loot council | Officers decide each drop: upgrade size, attendance, role. No points. | A tight progression core that trusts its officers, and wants gear where it helps the raid most. |
| Soft reserve | Before the raid each raider reserves one or two items; only those who reserved an item roll for it. | A casual guild, a mixed group of friends, or a 10-player Barrow Deeps run. Nothing to keep between raids. |
A rule of thumb: soft reserve while the guild is new and the raids are small, then DKP or EPGP once you're raiding every week with the same people, or a loot council if your officers would rather decide. Many guilds use soft reserve for one raid and points for another; on Meadhall, soft reserve is on each event, whatever the guild's loot system.
What Meadhall does for a Forever guild today
Meadhall is a web hub for a guild or raid team, with a Discord bot. WoW Forever is one of its game versions now: create a guild or raid team on it, and type your ruleset where other versions have a realm.
- Events and sign-ups: one-click sign-up on the site or the bot's Discord post, places and a waitlist, reminders in Discord, and attendance afterwards.
- DKP: pools, activities, weekly decay, a ledger everyone can read, and screenshot claims. Officers award a whole raid's attendance in one go. More on DKP.
- EPGP: switch the loot system to EPGP and Meadhall works out each raider's priority with the GP floor. More on EPGP.
- Loot council: switch the loot system to it now; members' wishlists are kept per raid, so they start when Forever's raids open (below).
- Auctions in DKP, with held bids and anti-snipe (on a paid plan). Never in gold on Forever.
- The loot log: every drop, who got it, and how it was decided.
- A Discord bot:
/event,/dkp,/loot,/auctionand more, after/setupin your server.
What isn't there yet for Forever
- Forever's raids: Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia's Lair are added once they open on 9 December. Until then a Forever group has no raids to pick: no raid lockouts, no soft reserve and no loot council wishlists, since each is kept per raid. Their resets are added once a real lockout can be checked.
- Battle.net character import: Meadhall imports characters from Battle.net for Retail, not for Forever yet, so Forever characters are typed in by hand (class, talent tree, ruleset).
- Item lists: Meadhall has no list of Forever's loot yet, so a drop's item is typed by name.
This page changes when they do.
What it costs
A World of Warcraft group of up to 10 members is free: enough for a Barrow Deeps team. A raid team of up to 30 is £3 a month, and a guild of up to 300 (a 40-player Onyxia raid and its bench) is £5; both add DKP auctions. Members never pay. See pricing.
Set up your Forever guild before launch. Sign in with Discord, create a guild on WoW Forever, and pick its loot system on the DKP page's Rules tab: sign-ups and points are ready for the first raid night.
