WoW Forever GDKP ban: which loot system now?
Gold-auction raids won't be allowed on WoW Forever. Here is what Blizzard said, where the ban applies, and the loot systems a guild can run instead, raid by raid.
What Blizzard said
In the WoW Forever developer Q&A of 17 September 2026, asked whether GDKP would be allowed, Josh Greenfield's answer was a flat no: "we are not going to allow GDKP" (Icy Veins, Warcraft Tavern).
- The reason given: where GDKP has been popular longest, it spreads until it takes the place of the guild. Real-money trading came up, but wasn't the main reason.
- Gold buying: Blizzard said it will punish gold buyers much harder than before, up to losing the account.
- Where: on the EU and US realms. Inven Global reported on 8 October that Korea is an exception, where GDKP stays allowed (Inven Global).
- Not the first time: Blizzard began banning GDKP in Season of Discovery in February 2024.
As of 22 October 2026 we haven't found a written policy beyond that answer: how the ban is enforced, and which loot methods Forever's raids offer (master loot or not), aren't published yet. This page changes when they are.
What it means for a guild
A GDKP raid paid gold for each item and split the pot among the raiders. Without it, every drop goes out by a rule the guild keeps itself: rolls, reserves, points or officers' decisions. That rewards turning up week after week, which is what Blizzard said it wants, and it means somebody has to keep the record: who reserved what, who has how many points, who got what.
Which loot system instead, by raid
Forever's first raids open on 9 December 2026, five weeks after launch.
| Raid | Size | A good fit |
|---|---|---|
| Barrow Deeps | 10 players, 8 bosses | Soft reserve: each raider reserves one or two items; only they roll for them. Nothing to keep between raids. |
| Hyjal Summit | 20 players, 13 bosses | Soft reserve while the guild is new; DKP or EPGP once the same people raid every week. |
| Onyxia's Lair | 40 players | DKP or EPGP for a steady roster, or a loot council for a progression core that trusts its officers. |
DKP can still run auctions: raiders bid points instead of gold. The longer answer, system by system, is on WoW Forever DKP and loot.
How Meadhall follows the rule
Meadhall is a web hub for a guild or raid team, with a Discord bot. On WoW Forever, and on Classic Era, Hardcore, Season of Discovery and Anniversary, its auctions run in DKP only: a gold auction is refused. Everything else a GDKP-free guild needs is there: raid sign-ups, soft reserve on each event, DKP, EPGP or loot council, attendance that pays points, and a loot log everyone can read.
Questions
Is GDKP allowed in WoW Forever?
No. In its WoW Forever developer Q&A of 17 September 2026, Blizzard said GDKP runs won't be allowed, and that gold buyers will be punished harder than before.
Does the GDKP ban apply in every region?
It applies on the EU and US realms. Inven Global reported on 8 October 2026 that Korea is an exception, where GDKP stays allowed.
What loot system should a WoW Forever guild use instead of GDKP?
Any system without gold: soft reserve suits the 10-player Barrow Deeps and casual raids; DKP or EPGP suits a steady roster raiding Hyjal Summit or the 40-player Onyxia's Lair every week; a loot council suits a progression core that trusts its officers.
